On the 14th of October we are celebrating Allied Health Professions Day.
This years theme is “Stronger together” which is about highlighting the teamwork required to provide wrap-around care for our clients in a collaborative approach between health care professionals.
Earlier this week, the Home Care team at MercyCare got together in Wembley to celebrate the day and acknowledge the amazing work that the Allied Health team are doing.
“We are privileged to have such a dedicated, compassionate and skilled team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Allied Health Assistants in our team” Said Lauren Meredith, General Manager of Home Care.
“Having an allied health team within Home Care supports the delivery of high-quality services and helps improve outcomes for the people we support.”
Allied Health Professional Support at MercyCare
Our team of physiotherapists and occupational therapists work closely with clients to ensure they receive the specialised services they need, including managing daily living tasks and safety in and around the home.
Some of the ways the Allied health team supports clients include:
- Enhancing functional independence and safety, such as through home modifications; programs that improve mobility, strength and balance; and the provision of specialised equipment to support everyday tasks and mobility
- Managing chronic conditions
- Supporting physical, cognitive and emotional well-being
- Rehabilitative care to help people regain function and strength after serious injury or an illness
- Lowering the risk of injuries and falls
- Improving the ability for people to communicate (such as by using assistive technology)
Allied health professionals play a pivotal role in ensuring that older Australians receive the comprehensive care and support they need to maintain their independence and quality of life.
Person Centred Approach
At MercyCare, we place people at the centre of everything we do. We see the person first as a unique individual, supporting their choices and needs with personalised and tailored services to achieve their goals.
We live by our values – respect, integrity, compassion, justice, excellence and courage. It drives us to make a difference and inspires us to build more caring communities filled with genuine people who are ready to take on any challenge.
